Film festival News

For a first time director rejection has proven a bit harder to take than I imagined!! At the start of the year we entered 6 big film festivals including Cannes and Edinburgh but with each rejection I found it that bit harder to stay with SPACE BOY. I had prepared myself for the fact that we might not be successful, but actually reading each rejection email proved very emotional, especially after we put such an extreme amount of time and effort into getting the film made!

But after seeing the 2K Digital Cinema Package for the film projected last week I am more determined than ever to get SPACE BOY out there for people to see on the big screen, because while the internet is great for numbers, there is nothing like seeing a really well made film on the big screen. SPACE BOY was shot for the big screen and holds up fantastically well for a first effort!

So if there are any film festivals out there that want a “Warm, charming and ambitious short film” (Nick Park & Peter Lord direct quote) then get in touch. SPACE BOY is a family friendly film that will spread a little happiness to any festival programme!

New Behind the scenes pics added

I have just uploaded a few more behind the scenes pics from the SPACE BOY shoot last year. We are also very nearly completed and will be having a private screening in Bristol and Hereford during April. Its quite scary to actually think that people are going to see this film! Its the end of the process and its time to get it out there and start writing the next film!

SPACE BOY Director heads into Space!

The night before the final week

Well it has finally arrived the last week of filming! We have a location and a studio shoot to do. It has been a hard week organising everything in-between shooting corporate and TV work!

My house is full of props, food and kit. The crew, cast and extras are sorted. Schedules, risk assessments, method statements done. Dolly system nearly completed. Space suit is well underway and should will be ready to shoot with Costa on Friday.

I am scanning the edit making notes of any pick ups needed and making sure that I am as prepared as i can be, as I suspect I will only get a few hours sleep in the next 5 days!

Will try and post some more pics soon.

Cheers

Set building

Busy week ahead building the set for the final SpaceBoy scene. Between which I am running through the look and lighting with the DOP, seeking 20 extras, scheduling, crewing up, sourcing kit and praying the BBC have not screwed things up again for me with only two weeks to go!!!

I have always wanted to make films and love working in the the industry but making your own film is the hardest thing I have done since becoming a father!! That said it is also the best fun I have had, following your dreams and passions and brining something to life is up there with creating a real life!

Watching ‘Hot Fuzz’ on TV and realise i love what film can do you as a viewer and the emotions it creates. Ad break over so must go!
